Giant killers Wisynco Group will go for their fourth Division One scalp when they play Scotiabank Group in the semi-finals of the 2010 Scotiabank Group-sponsored Kingston & St Andrew Business House Football Knockout Competition today at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, starting at 3:30 pm.
In the other semi-final, Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) will meet Division Two team, Wray and Nephew at 234 Spanish Town Road, also at 3:30 pm.
Wisynco Group, who are undefeated in 2010, and have defeated Division One teams, Petrojam 1-0, NWC 4-2, in penalty shootout after a 3-3 full and extra time draw, and defending champions Carib Cement 1-0 in the quarter-finals last week. They have won seven of their eight league matches played and have scored 26 goals while conceding none.
The Marcel 'Fuzzy' Gayle-coached Wisynco will be looking to defeat last year's beaten finalist Scotiabank Group and he expects his Premier League players and Division Two leading goalscorer Girvon Brown of St Georges United (13 goals), Kevin Mighty (Humble Lions), Kelso Cousins (Waterhouse), Omar Washington, Calbert Coke and Kevin Palmer to take them to victory and into the final.
Calvert Fitzgerald has won all trophies in the Business House Football Competition, except the Knock Out title since joining Scotiabank Group in 2004. He carried them to the final in 2007 and 2009, but lost 0-1 to NWC and Carib Cement. He really wants to win this game to reach the final, but he knows the Wisynco Group very well as they both train together at Jose Marti High School with his manning cup team. He will rely on Daimon Gordon (Tivoli Gardens), Akeem Themstead (Waterhouse), Division One and KO leading goalscorer Nicholas McCreath (Santos), Donovan Hibbert (August Town), and the Humble Lions pair of Ajuran Brown and goalkeeper Damion Crooks.
In the other semi-finals at Wray & Nephew, JNBS who finished last in the Division One competition and were demoted, will be trying to salvage their season, by winning the KO title. New coach Leon Mitchell will be looking to Mark Powell, Bradley Brown, Lauren Riley, Kimani Yong, Jair Minott and Dyshone Clarke for victory. The Anthony Patrick-coached Wray & Nephew are on a high after knocking out favourites Gleaner Company 3-2 in the quarter-finals last week, and clipping Jamaica Fire Brigade 1-0 Thursday to qualify for the league semi-finals. He will be relying on goalkeeper Julian Mcleish (Arnett Garden), Richardo Robinson, Ozane Christie, Glen Simms, Caetaneo Rainford and Kemar Gordon for victory.
The final will be played next Saturday at a venue to be announced.
